ART BY KEN CHAMPAGNE

Artist. Historian.  Louisianian.

Every conversation.  Every book.  Every experience is rushing in there somewhere.  I paint people. My focus is generally history, religion, or the real life people I see everyday or what I refer to as "low Americana."  (I am a surveyor. My job is to observe.)  Much of my paintings involve Catholic iconography.  I am drawn to the  images of the Renaissance and Baroque period. These are time honored subjects and I wanted to see what I can do with them.  And, of course, Louisiana history...there's a lot of ground to cover on that topic alone.

About Ken Champagne

Ken Champagne has spent most of his life living in and around Baton Rouge as reflected through numerous works based on the history of the area.  Over the years he has traveled across the country, often by bike, to experience people and places with a different perspective.  Incensed by social injustice as anybody,  he paints both the things he observes and has lived through himself.  He's particularly proud of his 30+ years of sobriety, which he attributes in large part to painting.  His unique style blends history, social commentary and a unique take on the world around him.  Take a look at his selected works and get in touch for more information.
